The Spaniard's triumph on Court Philippe-Chatrier once again makes it all the remarkable given his battle with a painful foot injury throughout the tournament that saw him beat world No.1 Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals. Nadal needed to come from two sets down in Melbourne but had no such problems in Paris against eighth seed Ruud, who was playing in his first ever Grand Slam final and described his opponent as his 'idol' in the build-up.
